Equal Sharing
Definition

Equal sharing is a process of division in which a given quantity of items is separated into a given number of groups so that each group has the same number of items. The number of items in each group is the answer to the division problem.


Example

Question

There are 24 pictures to paste into a 6-page book. Each page has to have the same number of pictures. How many pictures will you paste on each page?

 

One Possible Solution Process

Ask yourself: "In 24, there are 6 groups of how many?"


Place 24 pictures into 6 groups by placing one picture into each of the 6 groups. Then place another picture into each of the 6 groups. Repeat this process until all 24 pictures have been distributed evenly.
